10 Places With The Best Views In Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is one of the most exciting cities you can visit in Europe (a fact that led to us having as little as 2 hours sleep on more than one night when we visited with a group of 8 friends). There’s so much to see and do in the city, plus the nightlife is absolutely incredible so suffice it to say, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a dull moment in the city. If you’re looking some some key sights to check out in the city, check out this post here.

If you do however want to take a slightly different approach to your sightseeing and go based on  the most impressive views across the city, you would do well to seek out higher ground and look out for a place with a view!

This city is covered with terraces also known as ‘miradouros’ where you can do just that or, better still, you can head over to one of these 10 places for the best views in all of the city!

1.) Castelo de São Jorge

If you stand on the walls of the São Jorge Castle, you will be rewarded with amazing views over the rest of the city that include the river and a maze of medieval buildings and houses. The walls are a little shorter than you’d expect here though (especially in the middle) so it’d be understandable if you’re a tad scared of traversing the top of the walls here.

2.) Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara

This is a garden located in the Bairro Alto district of Lisbon so you can kinda come here for the pretty flowers and stay for the amazing view. From this vantage point you can see all the way over to Lisbon’s castle in the distance and many locals claim this is one of the most romantic spots in the city.

3.) Passeio das Tágides

A place with a view but not one that relies on you having to scale new heights. Instead, take in the beautiful view of Lisbon’s glassy marina from the boardwalk that crosses it for some of the nicest vistas in the city.

4.) Miradouro das Portos do Sol

This hilltop terrace is a great spot to take in the vistas over the city. From this height, you can see all the medieval buildings that dot the horizon as well as the signature white stucco homes that Lisbon is known for.

5.) Elevador de Santa Justa

The Santa Justa Elevator is perhaps the prime place to visit if you are looking for a scenic spot in the city. From this elevation you will have panoramic views that stretch down to the river and all the way to the north of Lisbon.

6.) Miradouro da Graça

This serene terrace is a favourite spot with locals and visitors alike. From here you can admire the castle, the river, and the iconic 25 de Abril Bridge.

7.) Arco da Rua Agusta

Those who climb to the top of this ceremonial arch in Lisbon will without a doubt be well-rewarded for their troubles –  from up here, you will be able to bask in breathtaking views of the picturesque downtown district.

8.) Parque Eduardo VII

The central park in Lisbon is known for its rolling hills and undulating lawns. As you wander around here, look back over the downtown area of the city for views that stretch as far as the river.

9.) Miradouro de Santa Luzia

The views from this terrace stretch all the way to the National Pantheon building. Not only that, but this terrace is known for being covered in dropping grapevines which makes it one of the most romantic spots in the city.

10.) Miradouro de Santa Catarina

If you prefer to linger as you take in a view, then this is the place for you. Santa Catarina terrace is home to a cafe, so you can while away the hours in the cafe with drinks while enjoying the fantastic view of the city.
